7217 error in EAW
« on: June 22, 2007, 06:25:58 PM »
After installing a new Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 card,
I am now getting "the" error.
Tried compatability settings, JIMM stuff, etc. No luck.
Shit......................... >:(

Okay,
I have no idea, so I guess I'll try a complete uninstall. Won't re-install, but will make
the folders with the ingredients, and maybe try compatibility or something........

Oh well..................................
short of dragging an old computer upstairs and trying to use that online,
I guess my EAW days might be over.  I cant do that, nor will I go back to the old card,
so................................... :'(
Anyway, this is the most frustrating problem I've ever had with it..........maybe I'll try
something else later, after I get away from it for awhile..............right now, I'm done.

I am surprised that Dumo hasn’t made any comment about your problem. Perhaps he is unable to keep in touch. I would do nothing drastic until you hear from him. ???

I had a lot of problems getting my video card to work.  :'( I think that most of them were basically related to over heating. I have the same model of card that you have. I do not have any sort of problem with it now. I am still on Win98, I assume that you are on WinXP.

Perhaps you might consider using the Caddy system that Dumo has used with great success. I have also put that in and it works very well. With that installed you can put in a HD with Win98 and run EAW with no problems. It is really a very low priced system.

I have not heard about any change in your employment status. I assume that finances may be a concern. I think that the bay cost me about $15. It comes with one caddy to hold a HD. You would need another caddy to hold the 2nd HD. I can lend you a caddy with a HD already in it and Win98 already on the HD. You can have it for as long as you need it.

Remember, you are not without friends! Let me know if you are interested. I can deliver things to Yeadon with no problems. ;D

Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 card

Normally ...this card must work for EAW !!!!

This what Dean H posted in Frugals forum time ago:

From a DeanH post in Frugal forum....

Hello chaps,
as one who has recently suffered the same issues, here's what I experienced.
I had an fx5200 but it fried and died, it still ran, but showed ugly artifacts on screen in most games.

Don't use the latest Nvidia drivers but try to use the driver I posted in this forum !!!

Yo guys,
this has been my most frustrating experience with EAW! >:(
I was so cranky yesterday trying to fix this, so I went out and did some other stuff,
and when I came back, I saw Jacks post, which softened me, and reminded me there
are more important things in the world...........like friends! ;D

I posted at Frugels, and Rauch gave me some Omega 16693 drivers that he said worked for him when he used to have the same card. I tried those drivers..........Chaos! ???
Didn't work.........computer also would not display anymore! After a re-boot, the display now worked, but still 7217 with EAW.
Yo Dumo, when you gave me the Extreme-G drivers in a previous post, I tried them when I still had my old card installed. At the time, I was trying to get water in fs2004. Didn't see any noticable difference, so went back to my old drivers. (Didn't even try EAW at the time.)
Tried them again last night, but got problems AND the 7217. Decided to try them again this morning, and apparently, you need to totally un-install the current drivers first, then there seems to be no problem loading the new. This time, before changing any settings or anything,
I clicked on my EAW icon.........................got the stupid music and the main screen! Looked
in the in-game settings and my stick was there! Didn't have to change compatibility or anything! I re-loaded OAW, put back my OAWunified folder with all my stuff and skins in it, and
ALL IS RIGHT WITH THE WORLD!
Yo Dumo, I quote you: "I uploaded it on Rapidshare.....
If not yet needed...I suggest you anyways to download it and keep as backup.
Never know for the future ....  8)" Truer words were never spoken!

Jack, Dumo, I thank you........................... 8) ;D :D ;) I am ready again for online flight! 8)

Good news indeed!
The problems can be frustrating but when I solve them and all is working right again, I get a fantastic HIGH. ;D

Roller...

This is great to hear.  I was worried that you would be MIA for many weeks until a solution was found.  I miss flying with you and KILLING you.  hehehehehehe

Actually I just miss flying with you.   The world is a lessor place without you in the air with us.

Let's get some kills tomorrow night together against Rauch!!!!
