I'm pretty sure most of those settings are based on the HOST only and transferred to the players. If you have default speed indicator, it will be what every the host choices, but you can override that by picking one or the other.

Mr. Jelly would know all the available settings that get transferred from the Host.

Here's what I wrote up in my install doc at the very end:

Multiplayer Difficulty Settings:
Online flying isn't possible under Windows NT or Windows 2000...there is no workaround for DirectX when it installs on Win2000 to enable the DirectPlay networking so that the games multiplayer will work. You will get a blank or black screen in the multiplayer configuration screens....

For information in regards to add-ons and multiplayer online play, see my Community Addons and Files Help Document for further details.

When you play online, most of the difficulty settings are determined by the Hosting player. The Host decides all realism that has to do with the flying, gunnery and damage. This is:

-Flightmodel (easy/realistic)
-Landings (easy/realistic)
-Spins/stalls (on/off)
-Torque (on/off)
-Blackout/redout (on/off)
-Structural limits (on/off)
-Realistic gunnery (on/off)
-Limited ammo (on/off)
-midair collisions (on/off)
(Invulnerability can not be selected in multiplayer.)

All these settings need to be set offline first. Once you have joined the EAW Lobby, you can only examine the listed settings the Host has picked for the current game. You can not change the realism settings at all at this point.

Then there is the "visual" realisms settings that are selected by the individual player and not transmitted to other players. By -visual realism- I mean:

- Display units (Metric/British/default) Default is the realistic one, metric in German planes, British in allied planes, but not that big a deal really. Using metric gives problems in a Hurricane for instance, as it's speed gauge don't exceed 400 I think it is. That is easily reached when using kmh.
- Use HUD (Unfortunately this isn't controlled by host. Games are much more fun when all players decide not to use the HUD, but you have to trust the players to turn it off).
- Airspeed (IAS/TAS) The realistic is IAS, but there is advantages and disadvantages for both.
- Altitude (Air to ground/Air to sea) Last is the realistic. Not so important either.

Besides the above realism settings there are different lines that can be added to the eaw.ini by the Host if he for instance wants to avoid AI in sweeps... or IF there will be AI to prevent players to take control of a new plane after they have crashed... Although the Host's .INI decides the settings in online games, the joining players eaw.ini file will not appear to be altered by the Host game, once you have exited the online game. However, the settings for what year, weather, time of day and such WILL get changed, but these can be changed back when a new game is hosted online or offline. Nothing else is changed in it.

Note: Even though most games are played preferably using full realism settings. There are some settings that actually destroy the feeling that you are playing a flight simulator. To mention two in particular; Easy Gunnery and Easy Flight Model, which turns the game into a first person shooter on wings, very arcade-ish.

    Hey Guys,

Spitty and I got together last night. We played the played the scenario where one 4-plane group flies from Brussels and another 4-plane group takes off from Grimbergen. The two groups/Squadrons rendezvous and proceed to intercept a group of German bombers. We managed to meet and intercept the bombers, Spitty gave commands to his group but I have not learned how to do that so my squadron just sort of wallowed around. I think that it is a good practice scenario. I am going to print up a list of critical commands and keystrokes on card stock and have it next to my joystick.
I am attaching the Game Set-up / Difficulty section in a graphic file. I am showing what I think is good set of selections. Look it over and give your opinion. When we agree on it we can each use that Difficulty set-up. I would like to check out and see if this has any effect on our Host/Join compatibility.

I will be working on disconnecting from the PhotoBucket service and using another

I no longer get service from PHOTO BUCKET and this big picture is just a test to see if I could use my Tinypic account to do the job. It is a bit annoying because all of the postings in all of the forums that I did are now efectivly erased

I don't know if you can see that Photo bucket put a sort of notice where my plane used to be. I just checked what was going on and they want $400 a year to host the pictures to other sites. I do not think so

    Hello Guys,

I have come up with an idea that may be the answer to a compatibility problem that we have been dealing with for some time.
On Monday night Beave and Spitty were on the air because I had been wrestling with a blue screen problem that I will get to later. They were flying with Beave hosting the game via Gameranger. I think that I was able to join the next game with them. We were flying against ME410’s and I was did not do very well. Spitty left to eat dinner and I was not able to join the game that Beave was now hosting. It kept throwing me out. I hosted and we were able to connect and we tried to do the scenario that I had suggested using both Brussels and Grimbergen. I wasn’t able to see Beave’s planes and later I could not target the JU88’s that we were intercepting. The scenario seemed to hold promise but we were not able to really test it. It was getting late and we closed up for the night.
Today I was looking into the problem and I found out that the HUD was turned off in my INI. I turned it back on and my targeting the enemy returned. I thought that the compatibility checking only involved the EAW.Exe file. I remembered that there were some OAW Selectors that checked to see if a lot of optional settings were different between the players. You couldn’t get on-line if they did not agree. Perhaps that might be a large part of our Hosting compatibility problem. We can try to test that out the next time that we get together. I took some Game Set-up, Difficulty Menu shots and we can look them over and agree on what we want to have and then set it up so we all agree and have the same thing. Then we can test to see if see if we are all able to host. I am attaching them to this posting

Thanks for the interest in my problem. It is an intermittent one and I am slowly closing in on it. I have tried to research an answer but so far I have not found one. At this stage it seems that it is involved with heat and the cooling fan. I am about to pull the setup apart and investigate the innards with the covers off. Sometimes I go over a week without a failure and then it returns. I am running XP on dell dimension 8400. There is not much going on with stuff that old. You will hear me celebrate on this forum if I fix the problem

I will be on tonight but I don’t expect to have any showups. I will be on TS and if you yell in the mike, I will probably hear you

It looks like the plan is working. Wait until Spitty gets rusty so that I look better.

I plan on being there tonight

Possible Delay!  I usually finish eating some time before 6:00 EDT and then clean up the kitchen and get to the computer about 6:30. I may be delayed this evening but I do expect to be on-line, I just won't be as early as usual.
If I can't make it, I will post to that effect
