I finally got what I think is a working permanent install of Win 7 in my Dell Optiplex. It has been a very frustrating experience. A lot of it doesn’t seem to make much sense but that is the way it happened. I will be bringing it up to date and adding all the little odds and ends that I need. The main thing after I get the basics in place is to get a working TeamSpeak set up. Then I can dream about the possibility of actual group flying. When I catch my breath, I will try to describe what happened. I hope the it will be easier to move from Win 7 to Win 10 that is was to go from XP to win 7.

Hello Dumo,
It is really good to see you on the old site and seeing that you are still involved with the old lady. I appreciate getting your answer. It looks like you and Mark are in agreement about Win 7and 10 as to EAW. It is sort of a toss up, between the two that will be decided by price. The same seems to be the case with the video card. At least I know that either of the cards will probably work OK. I will probably make my choice within the next couple of days. I will assume that I probably won’t be able to run EAW until I get the video card installed.

Today was another active day. I started with swimming a couple of 100 yards / meters and then exercising and getting dressed for the day and starting the laundry, make and eat breakfast, clean kitchen with cleaning the stove being the chore of the day. Put the laundry away and shop and gas the car.

The EAW world has changed considerably. There are a lot of names that don’t appear much any more. I guess that a lot of the old bonds have been severed and very few seem to remain in evidence. That’s the way life seems to go and you have to accept it one way or the other.

One thing hasn’t changed, I still feel good when I have contact with any of the guys from 352FG’s glory days. I would like to exchange a few friendly words with Tip. There are still some people from my past that I don’t have respect for but they are very few and I don’t harbor any malice towards them.

One way or the other, you are still very special to me. You made my day when I saw your posting.

Your student and friend,

Hey Mark,

Thanks for your answers. I wanted to get into detail but today is turning out to be a busy one for me. I just got home from grocery shopping and now I have to start cooking my dinner and after I eat, I clean the kitchen , then pick up  # 3 son and we go to #1 sons house and help him construct his model Railroad. I think that you gave me some very useful info and I should be acting on it very shortly. Anyway, I hope to go into more detail tomorrow.

I can't say Dell or HP, as I dont know the specs of the desired machines are. (You have machine model numbers you want?)

Win7 for EAW; runs better..by that I mean faster than it will on Win10. But Win7 has color issues with the menu screen, there is a registry fix for it though.
But a Win10 is fully updated, and tends to have better hardware. The EAW Game will runn almost half the FPS that it would on a Win7 OS, but it runs nearly perfect otherwise. But last I checked going into a missison, the menu screen transition was nearly 7to10 seconds longer than normal.

Video cards, my nvidia gtx 560 runs the game at the same speed as my gtx 960. PCI-E of course, the 960 is newer and actualy required less poewer to run.

Small form/low profile, is usualy less powerfull...low profile memory is usaly just as good though, and is low because it sits out of the way of the large cpu cooler.

Can anyone else help him out?

Please let me know your choice between these pairs for EAW use.

  Dell  or  HP Computers ?

    WIN 7  or    Win10 ?

Are there any recommended Video cards  ?

Are there any serious disadvantages with the Small Form or Low Profile slots and cards  ?

Hey Mark,
After I cloned the original hard drive for my Optiplex, I tested the clone out and I tried EAW via Dxwin. I didn't have the joystick connected so i used instant mission.I was wondering about the planes jumping around. I forgot that EAW did run on this system,
